"I go where angels fear to tread." - Ez D'Avenir

I really like Ez D‘Avenir as a character. As far as I‘m aware she was first introduced in the D&D 5e adventure „Curse of Strahd (2016)“. I immediately took a liking to her as I really liked her backstory, motivations and just the general feel of the character. She felt like a gothic heroine, but there was something about the concept that was fresh, new and made it really interesting to see the Ravenloft setting (that has existed for decades) through her eyes.

Anyway, her main „flaw“ that defines her, is „I go where angels fear to tread“. I always thought this was very evocative and wanted to capture that aspect of her in an artwork. A dramatic environment wreathed in flames seemed rather fitting, being somewhat reminiscent of hell, but still fitting within the realm of Barovia (or Ravenloft in general).
